Global PMI Partners, an international M&A consulting firm with a network of post-merger integration specialists, has extended its footprint into Australia.

With a team of around 80 professionals across the globe, Global PMI Partners is a consulting group dedicated to post-merger integration (PMI) services. The firm’s founders believe that working on integrations is profoundly different to other large transformations – due to the context and (potential) sensitivity, the impact on human capital and the added complexities that stem from the merging of different landscapes or cultural ways of working.

Decades of research into the track record of post-merger integration programmes has shown that regardless of the market or industry, the transition period can be a complex, high-stakes balancing act. According to one estimate, by McKinsey & Company, between 40% and 70% of all post-merger integrations do no achieve the predefined benefits outlined in the business case. Moreover, deal execution has been identified as a key success factor for overall deal outcomes.

With locations in 11 countries, Global PMI Partners builds on a pool of seasoned PMI specialists and an integral, customised approach to help clients bring their integrations – local and cross-border – to an effective close, while delivering the value aimed for. Clients the consulting firm has worked for include Apple, Bridgepoint, British Airways, Fiat, Jaguar Land Rover, KKR, Pfizer, Pernod Ricard and Philips.

The partnership with Australia-based boutique consultancy Surefire Associates expands Global PMI Partners’ coverage in Australia and the Oceania region. Stefan Hofmeyer, a San Francisco based partner at the firm, said he is delighted with the move, stating: “We are excited to have Surefire on board to expand our implementation capacity in the Asia Pacific region.”

Surefire Associates was founded in the summer of 2015 by Robert Heaton, a senior leader with over 30 years of experience in the technology and consulting industry. He previously held sales-related roles with SAP, SSA (now Infor), J.D. Edwards and Cisco and has lived and worked in Asia Pacific, Europe and North America. In between, he also worked as a consultant for consultancies in the UK and Australia.

In delivering its services, Surefire Associates works with a group of trusted associates, which include Troy Jarvis, Geoff Kelly, Richard Low, William Swale, and Jonathon Thomson.

By joining Global PMI Partners, Heaton expects to be able to better serve the firm’s clients in terms of service breadth and depth, as well as geographic coverage. “We can now offer our clients in Australia and New Zealand access to a truly global network of experienced practitioners able to deliver local and cross border M&A integration and divestment capability.”

Since establishing ten years ago, Global PMI Partners has delivered 350+ post-merger integrations with an aggregate value of over US$6 billion.
