Scyne Advisory recruits industry veteran Gary Denman as AI Chief Officer

Public sector consultancy Scyne Advisory has recruited technology industry veteran Gary Denman as its new chief AI officer, the former Google senior leader reuniting with Scyne chief executive John Ball.

Currently based out of Sydney, Denman brings more than three and a half decades worth of IT industry experience to Scyne Advisory gained across Australia, the UK and Asia, including the past six years spent in various senior roles at Google.

His appointment as chief AI officer continues the public sector consultancy’s increasing tilt towards technology following its PwC sale and relaunch in late 2023, with former Victorian government CISO David Cullen also recently joining the firm

“Gary brings a wealth of knowledge and a profound passion for technology’s potential to deliver better outcomes for communities and citizens, and will be instrumental in developing our AI capability, ensuring we continue to build strong governance principles in terms of use as a reflection of our commitment to responsible and ethical AI implementation,” the firms stated.

In response, Denman said that the importance of Scyne Advisory’s public interest ‘purpose’ has been evident since joining, with everyone aligned: “Any new technology brings an immense responsibility to ensure it is used correctly, provides benefit, and is accessible to every part of the community, and with artificial intelligence this is amplified even further. This will be a key focus for me.”

Denman first landed downunder at the start of the century as global partner business manager for Microsoft, having originally joined the tech giant in the UK. From there he worked his way up the ranks until transferring to Malaysia in 2009 as enterprise group sales director. Time as A/NZ managing director at networking and security firms Polycom, Brocade, and McAfee followed.

In 2020 he joined Google in Sydney – becoming an office colleague of inaugural Scyne CEO John Ball for the second time already – and has since then served as head of sales, digital native & corporate for Google Cloud, and subsequently Google Australia’s head of sales transformation and head of partnerships & alliances, with Scyne recently becoming a Google Cloud select partner.

“Inspired by the transformative opportunities presented by generative AI, Gary has re-engaged with his technology and development background to help revolutionise organisational experiences and processes,” Scyne Advisory said. “He believes AI will be pivotal in enhancing Australian productivity and capability in the coming years and is dedicated to preparing individuals and teams to capitalise.”
