Anthony Travers and Jonathan Dunlop have joined professional services firm Nuwaru as a partner.

Nuwaru launched in 2018 with the aim of building an agile and modern-age rival to incumbent accounting and consulting groups. The firm was launched by a group of leaders in the field including ex-partners at Big Four firms who believe in a model with a light cost structure (including no office) and an on demand talent approach that puts client interests first.

Having already grown to a team of ten partners and associates, Nuwaru has added a further two new partners to its ranks. Anthony Travers previously worked three decades for KPMG, including fifteen years as a partner in its Assurance and CFO Advisory Services divisions.

He specialises in services such as accounting, risk assessments, internal control assurance, regulatory reporting, finance transformation and external audit management, and served clients across industries, with a focus on media and entertainment – his ASX clients in the domain included Boral, TPG, Star, Event, GrainCorp, and Ruralco. Anthony Travers and Jonathan Dunlop - NuwaruJonathan Dunlop joined Nuwaru from Conducive Capital Advisers, a private equity firm he founded two years ago in order to invest in scale up businesses. Before that, he spent over twenty years as a partner of KPMG, holding leadership roles such as head of the Transaction Services service line, head of the Deal Advisory division, and co-leader of the Global Strategy Group practice in Australia.

Dunlop advised many leading Australian and international companies and private equity firms on strategic transactions, including domestic and cross-border acquisitions, divestments and IPOs. His expertise spans a wide range of industries, including engineering, fast moving consumer goods, healthcare, manufacturing, mining, private equity, professional services, retail, technology and transport.

Both former KPMG-partners have been appointed a partner. Travers bolsters the firm’s accountancy, finance, and risk & compliance offerings, while Dunlop will play a leading role in expanding Nuwaru’s recently launched mergers & acquisitions offering. The firm also supports its clients with assurance advisory and tax consulting services.

Nuwaru initially launched as Namaru, but rebranded to Nuwaru late 2019. The ‘nu’ means new, while ‘waru’ is an aboriginal term for fire, symbolic for the firm’s mission to bring fire to the still relatively traditional accounting and consulting industry.

Other partners of Nuwaru are James Jobson (co-founder; ex-KPMG), Rod Henderson (co-founder; ex-KPMG), David Early (co-founder; ex-PwC), Peter Chiswell (co-founder; ex-KPMG), Ashley King (ex-Deloitte and ex-PwC), Sam Lo Ricco (ex-Deloitte) and Mark Oh (ex-Deloitte and ex-PwC).
