State of Matter has become the latest firm to launch a podcast channel. Who Looks After the Leaders’ will feature an array of top corporate experts, who will provide listeners with advice on balancing self-care with the high-pressure life of running a business.

Starting in the mid-to-late 2000s, podcasts have rapidly proliferated in quantity, and in the formality of their organisation. As the flourishing industry continues to boom in terms of listeners and advertising revenues, a growing number of companies have – accelerated by the changing knowledge consumption demands induced by the Coronavirus – entered into the space.

Podcasts give consulting firms phenomenal opportunities to reach their target clients directly, at scale. Some of the most listened to podcasts in the industry are those of McKinsey & Company, Deloitte, Boston Consulting Group, and now, State of Matter, a Victoria based management consultancy specialising in business transformation, has joined the arena.

State of Matter launches leadership podcast on Spotify

State of Matter’s podcast named ‘Who Looks After the Leaders?’ is a miniseries of ‘sound bites’ aimed at helping leaders learn from other leaders. Speaking ahead of the podcast’s launch, co-host Adam Detwiler – an Executive Coach based in Melbourne – said, “We know there’s so much content out there right now on how to be a good leader, and how to achieve positive outcomes, but we think it’s equally important that leaders focus on their own wellbeing and self-care.”

Amid the high-intensity early days of any organisation, it can be easy for business leaders to lose sight of their own wellbeing. State of Matter looks to address this, by examining how leaders of top organisations improve their mindset and look after their physical and mental health, all while achieving high impact outcomes. Alongside Detwiler, the podcast will be made by Head of Consulting at State of Matter, Alex Lal, and will bring listeners vital advice from some of Australia's most successful corporate leaders, helping them to develop resilience and embrace a high-performing mindset even during stressful times.

Lal commented, “This podcast is for those who face the unique stresses which come with being responsible for high-performing teams and organisations, but equally we hope the advice and ideas shared are useful for anyone in a professional role… In this series we’ll be speaking to some of Australia’s most inspiring business leaders, to share their unique perspectives on how leaders of top organisations can take better care of themselves.”

The first episode will see Lal and Detwiler speak with Deanna Lomas, Chief Integrated Supply Chain Officer at MHP Electrical Engineering Projects, about leading during difficult circumstances. In the coming weeks, they will also speak with Shaun O’Brien, National Manager at IAG Risk Partners; Sue Bigham, a former Consultant with Human Synergistics ANZ; Dirk Dobbs, Head of Strategy Management & Product at health and community company HESTA; Effie Gorringe, Director Operations ANZ at L'Oréal; and Ian Wall, Global Security & Resilience Director of professional services firm Worley.
