Brisbane-based ESAM Consulting has been acquired by FTS Group, becoming the eighth brand of the rapidly growing professional services group.

The addition of ESAM Consulting adds a team of around 20 professionals to FTS Group, lifting its headcount to almost 500. The majority of the group’s employees work at technology providers Anatas (systems integration), Galaxy 42 (solutions), KoBold (decision systems) and Veritec (Microsoft Services), while the remainder serve consultancies Noetic (management advisory), Cubic Consulting (change management) and Safety Evolved) (workplace health and safety).

Founded in 2012, ESAM Consulting provides and implements IT solutions to the higher education sector with a strong emphasis on TechnologyOne Student Management. The firm’s client base includes well-known universities such as Queensland University of Technology, Central Queensland University, Macquarie University and University of Tasmania.

As part of the integration, ESAM Consulting will be fully integrated into Galaxy42, which similarly has a focus on the TechnologyOne application suite. “The synergy between ESAM and Galaxy42 in terms of our approach to provide specialised services to the higher education sector made this an obvious alignment of our organisations. We are delighted to be joining Galaxy42 and FTS Group,” said ESAM Director Mark Dacey.

The move comes at a time of heightened demand from the education sector for IT services, amid the large-scale transition to digital learning triggered by the Covid-19 pandemic. “The rapid shift to remote learning [has created] an increased demand from the sector for IT providers to help streamline business processes, drive efficiencies and strengthen technical capabilities long-term,” said Stephen Kowal, Chief Executive Officer of FTS Group.

“The higher education sector is a strategic priority for many of the companies within the FTS Group… ESAM Consulting will help us accelerate across our portfolio.”

In other deals in Australia’s IT consulting space, last week Melbourne-based data science specialist Versor joined Fujitsu Consulting, and in February McKinsey acquired Hypothesis to beef up its Digital division.
