Australian environmental consultancy EMM expands to Canada
One of Australia’s leading independent environmental consultancies, EMM Consulting, has expanded internationally, picking Canada as its first stop.
Founded in Sydney in 2008, EMM Consulting today has a headcount of over 250 spread across seven offices throughout Australia.
The latest addition to the company’s footprint will cater to clients out of Toronto and Vancouver, in areas such as environmental assessments, approvals, compliance and management, urban and regional planning, asset delivery, and strategic communication and engagement, together with a range of technical services in air quality, acoustics, water, and land rehabilitation among others.
“The expansion into Canada represents an exciting new chapter in the company’s growth. It allows us to focus on providing innovative solutions to our clients existing challenges, delivering localised support and the additional advantage of being able to apply these learnings to our Australian projects,” said EMM Consulting CEO Liz Webb, who took the helm in the middle of the year.
Joining her as a member of the senior leadership team will be freshly-appointed director James Duggleby out of Toronto, a hydrogeologist who has been with the company for the past five years after the previous decade spent between AGL Energy and engineering firms Atkins and WSP, gaining experience in Australia, Africa, Europe, the Middle East, and South America.

In addition to Duggleby, the consulting firm has welcomed back environmental approvals specialist Jarred Kramer for his second stint at EMM. Kramer will help drive the company’s Canadian venture out of his base in Vancouver, having previously managed large multi-disciplinary environmental assessments and permit applications across both British Columbia and the Yukon.

Last year, Australian management consultancy Nous Group also expanded into Canada, following earlier expansion into the UK market.
