BDO has added former Big Four seniors Etienne Gouws, Hamish Ogilvy and Michael Anderson to its Australian partnership team.

Former Deloitte partner Etienne Gouws joins BDO’s IFRS and corporate reporting team in Melbourne, fellow ex-Deloitter Hamish Ogilvy (latterly a director) bolsters the corporate finance wing in Melbourne, while former EY partner Michael Anderson has joined the corporate tax team out of Sydney.

Gouws returns to the private sector after four years as a director in the accounting policy and financial reporting group of the Victorian Department of Treasury and Finance, before which he was a director in KPMG’s CFO Advisory practice over three years.

Gouws has also twice served as a director at PwC between 2008 and 2013, split by a short-lived stint as a partner in Deloitte’s assurance and advisory practice in Perth.

Ogilvy brings almost two decades of experience advising clients in multi-disciplinary engagements across the mergers & acquisitions lifecycle. He most recently was a senior director in the M&A team of Deloitte Corporate Finance, where he led several digital infrastructure and technology, media and telecom engagements.

Earlier in his career, Ogilvy also served Big Four firms EY and KPMG. His sector knowledge further covers pharmaceuticals and healthcare, mining and energy, and financial services.

Anderson joins BDO after three and a half years as a Special Counsel with tax advisory Greenwoods & Herbert Smith Freehills (which was recently picked up by PwC), and will focus on financial services, venture capital and mergers & acquisitions. Earlier, he spent a decade as a partner at EY between Sydney and New York, the latter where he led the Australian tax desk.

Anderson was also a member of Deloitte’s partnership, during a nine-year stint at the firm.
