RSM promotes four long-serving members to partner
RSM has boosted its leadership ranks across the country through the promotion of four long-serving professionals – Peter Kanellis, Mary Lai, Warren Fynn and Jimmy Smit – to partner.
Together, the quartet of new partners has notched up more than five decades of service at the firm across assurance, business advisory and tax.
Peter Kanellis and Mary Lai are based in RSM’s Sydney office, Warren Fynn is based in the Wagga Wagga branch, and Jimmy Smit is based in Katanning in regional southwestern Western Australia.
Based in RSM’s Audit and Assurance division in Sydney, Kanellis has been with the accounting and consulting firm since shortly graduating with a commerce degree from Macquarie University in 2007.
Kanellis has managed and coordinated global audit assignments for both ASX-listed and large multinational groups, and also provides technical advice to audit committees, boards and management on technical accounting matters.
A member of RSM’s Tax Services division and China Practice Group, Lai has been with RSM for the past decade, after spending six and a half years with Deloitte and serving as an in-house tax manager at Yahoo.
She holds commerce and law degrees and a master of laws from the University of Sydney, and counts high net-worth individuals along with mining and property and construction companies among her clients.
Fynn becomes a partner in the business advisory wing of RSM’s Wagga Wagga office, having first joined the firm at the beginning of 2009 following a two-year stint as a Financial Assessment Officer with the NSW Rural Assistance Authority.
He provides a range of services across the business and taxation spectrum, and specialises in generational succession planning for family businesses.
Also a member of RSM’s business advisory unit, Smit becomes a partner in Katanning, a town around 270 kilometres southeast of Perth. Smit has been with RSM for more than a decade and a half, joining the firm in 2006 after emigrating from South Africa.
With a background in farming, Smit serves clients throughout the Great Southern region on business and tax matters, including cloud-based accounting.
