Proximity bolsters defence practice with industry expert Ron Fisher
National advisory firm Proximity has bolstered its Defence practice with Ron Fisher, a senior industry expert and a familiar face to Proximity’s leadership team.
Appointed a principal adviser, Fisher will lead Proximity’s service offering to the defence sector, which is the firm’s largest industry vertical by revenue. The Canberra-headquartered firm provides consulting, commercial and legal services to clients across sectors.
Fisher transitions from his recent role as an external member of the Defence Capability Acquisition and Sustainment Group Independent Assurance Review Board, where he helped review dozens of Defence procurement projects.
Before that, Fisher had a long senior executive career in defence, serving as Managing Director of Raytheon in Australia between 1998 and 2009. During this time, he led the establishment of the local business unit and oversaw its growth into a $600 million business by 2009. He also served as President and CEO of Raytheon in Canada.
In between, he spent five years as an independent consultant and coach, supporting businesses in developing growth strategies and professional development, leadership, executive development, and career management programs.
“We are very enthusiastic about the benefits Ron’s experience, network, skills, and energy can bring to our Defence practice, and Proximity more broadly,” said Zoe Lynam, co-CEO of Proximity. “In addition, Ron brings extensive knowledge of the current issues facing Defence procurement projects and will play a key role in helping our Defence clients solve complex problems.
Fisher’s appointment comes hot on the heels of Proximity being named one of the Top Defence consulting firms in Australia by Consultancy.com.au, and at a time when the firm is experiencing significant growth. Lynam: “We’re excited about the benefits his experience can bring to its ambitious growth agenda.”
“I am eager to roll-up my sleeves and help clients with large-scale procurements, complex project and program management, organisational planning and change management and work together with clients to produce great outcomes for the challenges they are facing,” Fisher said.
Supporting his leadership position are Proximity expert advisers Warren King and Greg Divall. “Proximity really is the best place for me to do this type of work and to have a positive impact,” Fisher added.
The relationship between Fisher and Proximity goes back years. Back in 2013, he was one of the founding members of the firm’s advisory board, and as a result, “Ron has a deep understanding of our core values,” concluded Lynam.
