Assurity Consulting crosses the ditch with Brisbane office launch
New Zealand-grown tech assurance consultancy Assurity Consulting has landed in the Australian market.
The firm’s new venture in Brisbane offers a range of services to government and private sector clients, including quality assurance, test engineering, and human-centric testing.
Assurity Consulting co-founder Garth Hamilton said the move was the culmination of years of ambition and effort.
“Not only is it a natural progression for New Zealand businesses to enter the market of our major trading partner, but we have a powerful value proposition which is particularly appealing as more organisations embark on costly and risky digital transformations,” Hamilton said of crossing the ditch. “Our work is focused on de-risking these initiatives, accelerating time-to-value, and eliminating costly re-works or failed projects.”
Established by Hamilton in 2005 alongside fellow co-founder and director Darren McTigue, Assurity Consulting has since grown to a headcount of 200 consultants across offices in Wellington, Auckland, and Christchurch (with a further base in Manila), having over the past eighteen years completed more than 2,000 engagements, including for some of New Zealand’s largest organisations.
The consulting firm has been led by CEO Stephen Mitchell since 2021.
Backed by its teams in New Zealand and the Philippines, Assurity Consulting’s new Brisbane office will serve as a hub catering to clients across Australia’s other major cities and regions, with the local business to be overseen by CEO recruit James Massey. Massey crosses from the Queensland branch of 2021 Wipro acquisition Ampion alongside new CTO Leon Edmonds, the pair bringing decades of IT industry and software assurance experience.
“Software quality and enterprise technology project quality is widely recognised as a major and very expensive problem,” Massey stated. “Assurity Consulting has proven its capabilities in supporting the delivery of high-quality projects, reducing risk, and accelerating returns for major customers in New Zealand. It’s a proud heritage that we look forward to building on in Australia as we help our clients achieve more from their technology investments.”
The consultancy says that it brings a distinct competitive advantage to Australia in the form of its Assurity Cloud Platform, a quality management automation tool developed as part of a large-scale digital transformation project for Inland Revenue. “Its faster, more thorough and costs less,” Hamilton said of the AWS-hosted platform’s ability to handle enterprise software upgrades, new releases, and the introduction of additional applications.
The firm’s expansion to Australia continues a recent period of evolution for Assurity Consulting, beginning with Hamilton and McTigue stepping back in 2021 from their CEO and CCO roles to focus on governance and strategic growth opportunities as directors.
Since then, Assurity Consulting has updated its service strategy, bolstered its leadership stocks with a trio of general line managers, and late last year unveiled a new logo and brand refresh.
