Adecco has launched its new Akkodis brand downunder, which was formed through a merger of Modis and AKKA Technologies.

Recently-formed digital engineering and solutions consultancy Akkodis continues to secure its local leadership team following the entity’s creation through the merger of Modis and AKKA Technologies.

Owned by global human resources giant Adecco, Akkodis boasts a headcount of 50,000 technology professionals in 30 countries worldwide, including more than 1,300 across its Australian practice, which is led by chief executive Peter Hawkins.

Modis and AKKA merger Akkodis launches in Australia

“I am very excited to open this new chapter for AKKA and Modis, bringing new opportunities for our clients, our employees and all our stakeholders. Our ambition going forward is clear: we want to lead the global smart industry market, as the strategic partner of choice for businesses and organisations,” said global Akkodis president Jan Gupta upon the merger announcement early last year, although the new brand was only officially launched in Australia in March.

Since then, a series of Modis leaders have been confirmed as continuing their roles at Akkodis, including vice presidents Anthony Doig (strategy & solutions), Omar Alim (delivery), Carol Gobby (sales & growth), James Bromberger (ecosystem partners), Kevin Findlay (finance & commercial), Lisa Collins (marketing & comms), Anatoli Kovalev (Akkodis Academy), Jaryd Wallis (talent services), Karyl Treble (HR), and Anthony Williams (consulting).

The latter has been with Akkodis and its local market predecessors since 2011, tracing a company lineage back through Ajilon, which rebranded to Modis in 2018, and previously AeM, a Perth-based business and ICT consultancy which was established in 1998 and acquired by Ajilon in 2006.

Williams noted the “amazing journey” from a 50-person consultancy to what is now a 50,000-strong global team, describing Akkodis as the most transformative business yet.

Formed following Adecco’s purchase of global digital engineering firm AKKA Technologies last year, Akkodis blends AKKA’s expertise in machine learning, robotics, big data, and IoT with Modis’ own ICT know-how and legacy business in tech training and talent management to create a unique market offering.

According to the firm, its broad capabilities can support clients through the full product life-cycle, from design and testing through to production optimisation and efficiency.

Welcome Australia

The Australian arm of Akkodis was officially launched in recent weeks at a showcase event held in Perth, hosted at the WA Boola Bardip Museum, with local innovation minister Stephen Dawson in attendance and global president Gupta flying in from the firm’s Zurich headquarters for the occasion. Akkodis says similar launch events will follow across its Australian footprint, which further includes outlets in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide and Canberra.

During the event, the firm highlighted its collaboration with the Western Australian Police Force to develop the ‘Yarning App’, which last year took home the global Microsoft ‘Inclusion Changemaker’ award for Social Impact partner of the year. Available to 7,000 officers across the state, the mobile app, which can play messages aloud, provides various First Nation languages interpretation to improve understanding and communication with Aboriginal communities.
