Deloitte Australia is celebrating three of its senior leaders being appointed to global positions.

The Australian branch of professional services firm Deloitte has had three of its senior leaders promoted to global roles; chief strategy officer Clare Harding becomes global innovation officer; Deloitte Consulting chief operating officer Tim Nugent takes on the role at the global level; and Brisbane-based partner Belinda O’Toole has been named as Deloitte’s new global general counsel, the first time someone outside of the US has held the role.

Clare Harding has been with Deloitte between the UK and Australia for more than two decades, originally joining the firm in London in 2000 following nine years at Arthur Andersen, before crossing with Deloitte to Sydney in 2006.

Harding has since held a number of senior leadership roles, including APAC strategy & operations leader, national managing partner for financial advisory, chief transformation officer, and since the end of 2020 chief strategy officer.

Now, she takes on what is a new role on the global executive team as chief innovation officer, alongside global CEO and former US boss Joe Ucuzoglu, appointed to the top job at the beginning of the year, and incoming global chair Anna Marks, who takes over from UK colleague Sharon Thorne in June.

Deloitte’s global executive is made up of roughly two dozen members from around the world, with responsibility for advancing the firm’s strategic business priorities.

An expert in the Technology, Media and Telecommunications (TMT) market, with a roll-call advising some of the biggest names in the business including Telstra, the NBN, APN, Seven West, Fairfax and News Corp, Harding also has a wealth of executive experience to draw from in her new role. As chief strategy officer, with oversight of innovation including Ventures, she has been a member of Deloitte’s Asia-Pacific strategy council and talent leadership team.

Based out of Melbourne, Tim Nugent becomes Deloitte Consulting global chief operating officer after performing the role at the local level as deputy managing partner and performance practice lead, in addition to heading up the firm’s Analytics and Cognitive practice for the Asia Pacific. Nugent joined Deloitte as a partner in 2008 on the back of close to a decade between BearingPoint and Accenture, the latter where he spent seven years out of Monash University.

Belinda O’Toole has been named as Deloitte’s new global general counsel, expanding from the Asia Pacific position she has held for close to five years overseeing approximately 120 lawyers across the region – a role which has seen her named to the recent Australia GC Powerlist by industry publication the Legal 500. Originally joining in Sydney before later relocating to Brisbane, O’Toole is closing in on 20 years with Deloitte, including a two-year stint based out of New York.
