Alvarez & Marsal elevates John Sanger to managing director
Three-decade ICT industry veteran John Sanger has been elevated to managing director in Alvarez & Marsal’s Perth office.
Professional services firm Alvarez & Marsal has made no secret of its strategy to stack its senior ranks with experienced operators from rival firms as it rapidly scales up in Australia – bringing in more than a dozen senior recruits in the past month or so alone.
But the consulting firm also continues to promote from within, with Perth-based CXO services leader John Sanger stepping up to managing director level as one of 69 new year’s promotions worldwide.
In congratulating the latest cohort of senior leaders, A&M co-founders Tony Alvarez II and Bryan Marsal stated, “Their contributions to our core values of integrity, quality, objectivity, fun, personal reward and inclusivity are what make the firm unique, and their commitment to help clients maximise value and drive change amid ongoing macro-economic challenges builds upon our legacy of operational excellence while advancing our results-oriented mission.”
A three-decade ICT and financial services industry leadership veteran, Sanger joined Alvarez & Marsal in 2022 around the time of its official launch in Australia with new and larger offices in Sydney, Melbourne and Perth. Based out of the latter, Sanger serves as head of Interim CXO Services for the firm’s integrated Southeast Asia and Australia unit, bringing personal recent experience as the chief operating officer of Australian Finance Group.
Prior to his four years with AFG – which last year generated revenues hitting the $1 billion mark – Sanger spent more than a decade and a half in senior leadership roles at Optus and its acquisition Alphawest dating back to the turn of the century, including as head of strategy, transformation & operations for over five years in the former’s Optus Business division, where he led a team of 200 professionals across its strategy, operations, IT, and digital functions.
Almost a third of the 69 promotions worldwide were made in the New York-headquartered firm’s ever-growing EMEA division. Antonio Alvarez III (Europe, Middle East and Africa managing director by day, international music DJ/producer by night), recently noted the global firm is employing the same playbook in Australia as it did in expanding to Europe and Latin America – attracting the leading practitioners who it believes fit with A&M’s values and “urgency DNA”.
