Alvarez & Marsal adds Erica Birchall to Australian M&A team

Alvarez & Marsal has expanded its M&A-focused team in Australia with Erica Birchall, who has been named the lead for the Capital Markets & Accounting Advisory offering.

Appointed a Managing Director, Erica Birchall brings over two decades of experience in mergers & acquisitions (mainly due diligence) and advising clients on complex technical accounting and financial reporting matters across the deal life cycle. Her expertise spans IPO readiness, restructuring, acquisition and joint venture structuring, divestitures, refinancings, purchase accounting and post-deal technical support.

Birchall also helps clients with new standards implementations, including sustainability and sale and purchase negotiations. 

Additionally, Birchall assists with disputes and accounting expert witness matters. She has worked with corporates, private equity and government entities on cross-border transactions spanning multiple sectors, including infrastructure and transport, large-scale government privatizations, renewables and the energy transition.

Commenting on her move to Alvarez & Marsal, a global consulting firm with a growing footprint in the Australian market, Birchall noted: “My background aligns with Alvarez & Marsal’s operational heritage and results-driven mindset, and I look forward to supporting the growth of the Transactions Advisory Group.”

Birchall previously served KPMG and PwC for over 20 years in London, Beijing, and Sydney, primarily working on large-scale acquisitions, divestments and privatizations.
