Thierry Lotrian launches climate compliance boutique Climate & Decisions
Former Deloitte partner Thierry Lotrian has struck out on his own with the launch of Climate & Decisions, which will provide data-driven solutions to support sustainability and compliance.
The move has been motivated by the Australian government’s recently-passed legislation on mandatory climate reporting, which will come into effect from the beginning of next year and initially impact 6,000 large organisations.
Lotrian – who served as both a data & AI and climate & sustainability partner during his decade at Deloitte – says the compliance pressures on businesses are being exacerbated by a shortage of professionals who hold expertise in both fields.
From the start of next year, Australia’s Sustainability Reporting Standards (ASRS) regime will initially require businesses with a turnover of more than $500 million and larger super funds to provide ASIC with what is described as “financial-grade, auditable data” on their climate and sustainability-related financial risks, with smaller businesses to follow in a phased approach.
“The upcoming mandatory reporting presents significant data and compliance challenges,” Lotrian said, adding that companies must begin preparing now to meet the strict requirements. “By combining deep sustainability expertise with advanced data capabilities, we not only help them meet regulatory requirements but also position them for long-term success in a low-carbon economy.”
A dual masters holder in finance & auditing and business consulting from the University of Nantes, Lotrian brings more than two decades of experience to his new venture, having kicked off his career at RSM in France before a three-year stint at Capgemini. From there, he spent six years at SAP, originally in the UK, before arriving in Australia in 2010 and joining Deloitte four years on.
Elevated to the Deloitte’s partnership in 2017, Lotrian has since led the firm’s alliance programs for both its data, analytics & cognitive and climate & sustainability practices, and has amassed significant experience working with executives across multiple industries to drive transformations enabled by data & AI, backed by his further capabilities in performance and risk management.
In order to remain agile and address the unique challenges of each client through tailored solutions, Lotrian will partner with consulting matchmaker Outsized, providing for the rapid deployment of specialist consultants and industry experts on any given project. This streamlined approach, he says, means that Climate & Decisions can better adapt to the evolving climate compliance landscape.
