Former Deloitte partner Angad Soin ascends to top role at Xero
Former Deloitte partner Angad Soin has been appointed as managing director of Xero for Australia and New Zealand, having joined the small business accounting software provider three years ago.
Xero was established in Wellington 2006, and today brings in revenues of $1.7 billion with more than 4 million subscribers to its platform around the world. Australia and New Zealand however remains its largest market.
Soin spent thirteen years at Deloitte prior to joining in 2021, latterly as national lead partner of the Big Four firm’s strategy & transformation office. He will also continue in his current executive role as global chief strategy officer.
“Xero is an iconic company with strong roots and an incredible future in A/NZ,” Soin said of his appointment. “I’m excited to lead this strategically important region for Xero and continue to drive growth while deepening our customer relationships. Getting out to connect with our customers and partners is my first priority and I look forward to doing that over the coming months.”
An information tech graduate of the University of Technology Sydney, Soin kicked off his career as a test analyst at IBM Consulting before later joining Deloitte in 2008. Advising global clients in areas such pricing, transformation and go-to-market, Soin steadily rose up the ranks and was admitted to the firm’s partnership one decade later as a member of Deloitte’s ventures team.
Departing after a period as strategy & transformation office national lead partner, Soin has continued that trend of consistent promotion since joining Xero, initially as operations executive general manager for strategy, corporate development and partnerships. He was tapped as global chief strategy officer at the beginning of last year, and now adds the A/NZ lead role to his portfolio.
With responsibility for strategy, revenue, and partner and customer engagement across the region, Soin will report to chief revenue officer Ashley Hansen Grech, who stated; “Angad’s background and experience, including working with me to evolve our go-to-market capabilities, makes him the right fit for this role. I’m excited to work with Angad as we further strengthen Xero in A/NZ.”
Soin isn’t the first Deloitte alum to be driving strategy at Xero. Former global chief strategy officer Damien Tampling was the founder and head of Deloitte ventures in Australia, while UK country head Kate Hayward was also a member of the firm’s strategy & operations team in Sydney. Meanwhile, global head of acquisition integration James Erskine was an M&A consulting director.
Xero’s accounting solutions support small businesses in areas such as payments, invoicing, payroll and reporting. However, support for its project management tool WorkflowMax was discontinued in recent months, despite being used by more than 10,000 businesses, with professional services boutique BlueRock having picked up the brand last year and since rebuilt the product
