Oliver Wyman appoints Jim Murphy as Senior Advisor
Global strategy and management consultancy Oliver Wyman has appointed former Queensland Under Treasurer Jim Murphy as a Senior Advisor in its Australian business.
“We’re delighted to welcome Jim to Oliver Wyman,” said Ed Emanuel, Oliver Wyman’s Leader for Australia and New Zealand. “With extensive experience in both senior levels of government and the private sector, including roles at the IMF in Washington, the Prime Minister and Queensland Premier’s offices, and the Federal Treasury, he is an excellent addition to our government and public sector team.”
Prior to Oliver Wyman, Murphy served as Deputy Secretary in the Australian Treasury for over a decade and held senior roles in the Commonwealth Departments of Treasury, Attorney General and Finance. His career includes serving as an executive at ANZ Bank, and a role as an advisor with the International Monetary Fund in Washington D.C .and Chief of Staff in the Office of the Prime Minister and Queensland Premier’s office.
Notably, Murphy was awarded a Public Service Medal for his strategic economic advice, which formed the Australian Government’s response to the global financial crisis.
“I welcome the opportunity to join a well-regarded institution with quality people,” said Murphy upon his affiliation with one of the world’s leading consultancies. At Oliver Wyman, he will engage with clients and advise project teams on their work around government and public sector problems.
The appointment comes shortly after Oliver Wyman launched its Government and Public Institutions in the country, with Murphy providing a high-profile boost to its team. “As Oliver Wyman continues to expand and diversify their service offerings into Government and Public Institutions, I look forward to using my experience in public policy to address the challenges these organizations face,” he said.
Emanuel added: “The Australian governments are changing how they work with consultants, and Oliver Wyman can be a part of the evolution of how the government uses consultants to create stronger institutions. We’re excited for him to bring his experience to our specialist-focused approach and values.”
