Aster Advisory spins out of Pitcher Partners to offer independent services

A new consulting firm has launched in Australia, with Aster Advisory spun out of Pitcher Partners to offer independent internal audit, risk management, probity, and procurement advisory services.

Based out of Melbourne, Aster Advisory will continue to work in close collaboration with Pitcher Partners, where the specialist unit began life two decades ago, but can now operate independently free from any potential conflicts of interest.

The management consultancy is led by experienced executive director trio Graham Noriskin, Michal Jozwik and Matthew Wilson, who all spent upwards of seventeen years at Pitcher Partners, and already has a team of more than two dozen professionals in place.

“In light of concerns regarding independence facing advisory businesses, together with Pitcher Partners, we asked: is there a better way to support our clients?,” the firm outlines. “The answer was clear. We needed to adapt to meet the growing demand for delivering specialised, independent advisory services focused on upholding integrity and strengthening our relationship with clients.”

With a focus on the public, not-for-profit, education, healthcare, and transport sectors, Aster will specialise in the core areas of outsourced and co-sourced internal audit, risk management, procurement advisory, probity, cybersecurity & technology risk, and alliance contract services, backed externally by a direct line to Pitcher Partners’ financial, tax and accounting expertise.

“We believe there is a first-mover advantage from taking this step proactively, with a clear understanding of how we can address the needs of our clients”, Jozwik said. “We are one of the few consulting firms in Australia offering our services which is not part of a larger accountancy. This gives us an unparalleled level of independence from perceived or potential conflicts arising from other services.”

Officially active since the middle of last year, Aster Advisory says it successfully transitioned its entire team and more than 80 clients in the five months prior to its recent ‘public’ launch, and has received ‘overwhelmingly positive’ feedback on the move.

The firm has listed a senior team of around 20 on its website, and operates out of a new address at Level 9, 607 Bourke Street, a short hop from Pitcher Partners’ Collins Street base next to Southern Cross station.

Together, its trio of executive directors – all formerly leaders of Pitcher Partners’ risk & procurement advisory practice (RAPA) and partners since at least 2017 – bring more than eight decades of combined industry experience in both Australia and abroad, including earlier time spent at the Big Four. A supporting quartet of four client directors adds further decades of experience.

Aster Advisory traces its name to a goddess in Greek mythology, who, in a story which the consultancy said resonated with its purpose, “looked to the stars for guidance, wisdom, and love. One night, when the stars were absent, Asteria wept. As her tears touched the ground, they transformed into beautiful aster flowers, embodying a sense of renewal, resilience, and new beginnings.”
