HKA recruits former McKinsey partner Tino Grabbert to lead Advisory practice in APAC

Global consulting firm HKA has hired former McKinsey & Company partner Tino Grabbert to head up its Advisory division across the Asia Pacific region.

Tino Grabbert crosses to HKA in Sydney after spending the past decade and a half at McKinsey & Company between Switzerland and Australia, including most recently serving as the metals, mining & operations leader for Australia and New Zealand.

Headquartered in London, HKA has a global headcount in excess of 1,100 professionals spread across more than 45 offices in 17 countries worldwide, including Asia Pacific outlets in Singapore, China, Malaysia, South Korea, and throughout Australia and New Zealand.

“Tino’s appointment marks an exciting step forward for our advisory team,” said Advisory practice lead Dafydd Wyn Owen. “His track record in delivering strategic impact and operational excellence aligns perfectly with HKA’s ambition to provide market-leading strategic advisory services, and his leadership will help us unlock new opportunities and deliver exceptional outcomes for our clients.”

An industrial engineering graduate of the University of Rostock in northern Germany, Grabbert joined McKinsey & Company in Zurich in 2011 after five years at aircraft maintenance and services company Lufthansa Technik, before then transferring downunder with McKinsey a decade ago. He was made a partner in 2020 and then head of the strategy consulting firm’s local resources practice.

In this capacity, Grabbert has been responsible for managing a portfolio of more than twenty major clients (BHP, Rio Tinto, Santos, and Woodside have all featured among McKinsey’s notable past engagements), as well as overseeing more than sixty projects annually across the mining, energy, industrials and infrastructure & transport sectors delivered by a multidisciplinary team.

His HKA bio states; “Equally comfortable in the boardroom as on the front-line, Tino is recognised for helping large corporates and mid-cap organisations in asset-intensive industries deliver complex capital programs and operational productivity through strategic clarity, effective governance, modern operating models, and the practical application of technology and AI.”

“I’m excited to join HKA to lead the Advisory team in the Asia Pacific,” Grabbert said of his new role. “My focus will be on growing our advisory business and expanding our strategic capabilities, shaping and delivering high-impact advisory work for HKA’s most important clients, and building the leadership, talent, and partnerships needed for scalable, sustained growth.”

Previously led in the Asia Pacific by Mike Pitt and Phil Kienstra, HKA’s Advisory division, which operates alongside its global expert disputes resolution and litigation practice, supports stakeholders such as investors and private and public sector clients with staying ahead of cost overruns, commercial risks, and delivery challenges on major capital projects and programs.
