Insolvency & turnaround consultancy Jirsch Sutherland has officially expanded its presence to South Australia through the recruitment of registered liquidator Yulia Petrenko as a partner.

Having celebrated its 40th anniversary in 2024, the Sydney-founded firm now has its first permanent on-the-ground presence in Adelaide, adding to further outlets in Melbourne, Brisbane, the Gold Coast, Perth, and across New South Wales.

Both a registered liquidator and bankruptcy trustee, Petrenko, who crosses from local boutique Oracle Insolvency Services, brings more than a decade and a half worth of experience to Jirsch Sutherland, including time spent at Worrells and BRI Ferrier.

“This is a significant milestone as we continue to expand our national footprint and provide dedicated, local support to businesses and individuals across the country,” the firm stated. “Known for being trusted, responsive, and easy to deal with, Yulia is the ideal lead as local businesses continue to navigate rising operating costs and structural financial pressures.”

A commerce masters-holder in accounting and finance from the University of Adelaide (now Adelaide University), Petrenko kicked off her insolvency career with a three-year stint at Prime Global member BRI Ferrier, before spending more than six and a half years at Worrells. She then crossed as a founding partner of Worrells’ SA breakaway Oracle Insolvency Services in 2020.

Covering both personal and corporate insolvency matters, Petrenko has advised various stakeholders on managing and selling businesses, investigations, structural analysis, and business recovery strategies across a wide range of industries during her career, including those in the construction, manufacturing, property, retail, transport, and services sectors among others.

Petrenko, who originally studied an international economics degree in Moscow, thanked the Jirsch Sutherland team on LinkedIn for their very warm welcome, saying; “I’m feeling excited and well supported in this new chapter of my life, and here to help elevate the brand into an even stronger one through strategic networking and market presence. Here’s to the new beginnings!”

Jirsch Sutherland noted that Newcastle-based national managing partner Bradd Morelli was recently in Adelaide to discuss strategy with Petrenko alongside partners Emma Mos and Malcolm Howell of the firm’s Newcastle and Melbourne branches. Meanwhile, principal Michael Chan was recently appointed as the firm’s new chief operating officer out of Sydney.
