Technology consultancy Fujifilm Business Innovation has appointed Yoshinori Nagata as its new managing director for Australia, replacing Yasuyuki Matsumoto after two and a half years.

Nagata has spent more than three decades at the Tokyo-headquartered company, having held senior positions across sales, international marketing, and corporate and business group strategy in Japan and the Asia Pacific including Singapore.

Most recently he served as deputy of Fujifilm Business Innovation’s business solutions group, through which he is credited with having played a key role in advancing the company’s solutions-based evolution from Fuji Xerox since 2021.

“Australia represents a key market in our global operations, known for its innovation and early adoption of new technologies,” Nagata stated. “My vision is to further deepen our customer partnerships, accelerate our digital transformation initiatives, and position Fujifilm BI as the go-to partner for organisations seeking to thrive in an increasingly complex digital age.”

With a local headcount now exceeding 700 professionals, Nagata added that the firm was well positioned to continue its growth and transformation due to the strong foundations established by Matsumoto, who will return to Japan to take on a global expansion-focused leadership role after heading Fujifilm BI’s Oceania business out of Sydney since late 2023.

Those past two and half years have seen addition of DXC’s local Microsoft and SAP-focused small to medium-sized business practices to subsidiary Fujifilm MicroChannel, which was formed through an earlier acquisition and integrated under Matsumoto’s watch. The outgoing chief has also been responsible for reshaping Australian operations to offer a more unified service.

“It has been a privilege to lead Fujifilm Business Innovation Australia through a period of meaningful transformation,” Matsumoto said. “I am proud of the progress our team has made in evolving our business, and I am confident that Nagata-san’s leadership will continue to build on this momentum and guide the organisation toward a strong and sustainable future.”

Fujifilm BI said Nagata’s appointment comes at a pivotal time for its Australian practice as the company – which has had a presence in the country for more than 85 years – increasingly tilts from its legacy business in printers and document solutions towards IT advisory and implementations for customers “navigating complex digital, security, and workflow needs.”

Nagata’s appointment also coincides with the firm’s move to a brand new purpose-built headquarters in Sydney’s Macquarie Park, often described as Australia’s first innovation district. Spanning two floors, the new offices were designed to support agility and connection, with modern workstations, collaborative areas, meeting and training rooms, and upgraded AV technology.
