FTI Consulting strengthens Mining leadership with former practice leaders from rivals
FTI Consulting has significantly strengthened its mining capabilities in Australia with the appointment of four Senior Managing Directors, all of whom previously led Mining practices at major consulting firms.
James Chapman, who is based in Perth, has more than three decades of operations experience, providing technical and advisory insights to mining and resource companies. He focuses on building operating models and helping organisations turn strategy into real-world improvements.
Prior to joining FTI Consulting, Chapman was the Global Mining & Metals Operations Leader at EY. He has more than 20 years of consulting experience, and also gained client-side experience at a major iron ore producer.
Steve Dyson, who is based in Brisbane, joins FTI Consulting with more than 28 years of experience in complex transformation across the global mining and resources industry. His background includes business improvement and restructuring, operational efficiency and productivity enhancement, supply chain and process optimisation, large-scale cost reduction and project acceleration, as well as controls and reporting.
Prior to joining FTI Consulting, Dyson was the Global Mining Transformation Lead for Energy, Resources and Industrials at Deloitte.
Franz Wentzel, who is based in Brisbane, has more than 26 years of experience leading high-impact transformations and strategic growth in the mining, manufacturing and asset-intensive sectors, specialising in digital operations transformation, physical asset management and maintenance optimisation, merger integration and value creation through cost reduction and productivity improvement.
Prior to joining FTI Consulting, MWentzel was the Global Mining & Metals Industry Leader at PwC.
Dean Felton, who is based in Perth, joins FTI Consulting with more than 30 years of experience advising blue-chip and emerging-resource companies across the global mining and resources sector. He brings a track record of building high-performing advisory practices and helping mining organisations to solve complex strategic and operational challenges.
Before FTI Consulting, Felton was an advisor to senior leaders of a major global mining organisation. Before this, he was the Australian Metals & Mining Lead at Accenture, where he supported major global and mid-tier mining companies on transformation, capital investment and performance improvement initiatives.
Growing Mining practice
The addition of the four leaders continues FTI Consulting’s growth in the mining sector, following the hire of Carrie Grimes earlier this year and other professionals below the Senior Managing Director rank.
“Mining remains fundamental to global development, but the industry is under significant pressure to deliver stronger returns while navigating market volatility, cost inflation and technological change,” said Andrew Bantock, Global Mining Advisory Leader at FTI Consulting. “Our new team members bring deep industry insight and a proven ability to connect strategy, operations and technology.”
Mark Dewar, Australia Leader of FTI Consulting, added: “FTI Consulting has always been about bringing together senior experts, with deep real-world experience, to work side-by-side with clients at critical times to help solve their most important issues. James, Steve, Franz and Dean fit this model exactly, bringing their decades of experience working through the cycles with mining corporates.”
“They understand mining from an owner, operator and contractor perspective, and their growing team of mining specialists will think and act through the client’s lens, where real value is truly won or lost. Their arrival further strengthens FTI Consulting’s position as a uniquely independent, client-focused alternative in the market.”
