Altis Consulting appoints veteran Craig Chapman as regional leader for the ACT

Data analytics firm Altis Consulting has appointed former Deloitte specialist director Craig Chapman as its new regional leader for the ACT, adding over three decades of IT experience.

Craig Chapman crosses to Altis Consulting in Canberra after spending the past two years at Deloitte, before which he served as CTO for local cloud solutions and managed services provider Sliced Tech, which was acquired by Deloitte in 2021.

Chapman’s recruitment follows the Sydney-headquartered firm’s recent expansion to Adelaide, which is currently being led by Luke Best, while former Deloitte data & digital partner Des Viranna also joined Altis last year as head of advisory.

“Craig brings a valuable combination of deep technical expertise and a genuine ability to connect with people,” said chief commercial officer Katrina Pilcher. “He takes time to understand what organisations are trying to achieve and works alongside them to deliver practical outcomes, and that approach is central to how we work and will be incredibly valuable for our clients in the ACT.”

Chapman’s IT career dates back to Telstra in the early 90s, before a decade in infrastructure operations at the University of the Sunshine Coast was followed by another decade at Microsoft specialist Hammond Street Developments (which was later acquired by Atturra), including as general manager for Canberra. He has been a specialist director at Deloitte since early 2024.

Speaking on his latest role, Chapman said a data evolution was underway in the nation’s capital; “What’s changing in Canberra is the shift from one-off analysis to building systemised, real-time data capability. Agencies are moving beyond running queries to needing trusted products that can support decisions at scale, while at the same time AI is creating both opportunity and pressure.”

Altis, which was co-founded in Sydney by directors Hyun Choi and Gavin Cooke in 1998, is also actively looking to grow its federal government business, and is currently scouting for a principal consultant who can lead complex data and analytics programs to join the firm in Canberra, which is presently home to a dozen or so professionals out of approximately 200 A/NZ-wide.

“Government departments are focused on their core mission and often don’t have the capacity to continually build new, non-scalable applications,” Chapman added as to the public sector challenge of legacy systems and increasing complexity. “This is driving demand for organisations like Altis which can provide both expertise and flexibility to deliver sustainable outcomes.”
