EY adds new partners to Tax service line in Australia

EY has strengthened its Tax service line in Oceania with the appointment of five new partners: John Ryan, Hayden Scott, Michael Bona, Glenn O’Connell, and Stuart Landsberg.

Based in Brisbane and Sydney, the partners will work across Oceania while also supporting the global EYnetwork. Ian McNeill, EY’s Regional Tax Leader for Oceania, said the hires reflect sustained demand across the market at a time when taxation matters are becoming increasingly pressing and complex.

John Ryan returns to EY from BHP as a partner in the Tax Tech Transformation practice. He brings deep experience in tax transformation and technology enablement, having led significant technology-focused initiatives within BHP’s tax function.

Hayden Scott, Michael Bona, and Glenn O’Connell join EY from rival PwC, where they held senior leadership and client roles across international tax, transaction tax and global tax controversy.

Scott brings extensive experience in tax controversy and dispute resolution, advising private and multinational clients on complex regulatory matters through negotiation or litigation. He previously led PwC’s Tax Controversy and Dispute Resolution practice in Australia and globally.

Bona was PwC’s leader of International Tax and Transfer Pricing and has led teams advising multinational clients on cross-border tax matters and complex global structures.

O’Connell was PwC’s tax deals team leader and specialises in infrastructure, real estate and transaction-related tax, with a strong track record advising on major global deals and investments across real assets and private equity.

Landsberg, meanwhile, was an international tax partner who worked for more than five years on assignment in New York for PwC.

The Tax service line of EY is one of the largest in the professional services market. The practice generated $636 million in revenue in FY25 in Australia and is part of an integrated Oceania network across Australia, New Zealand, Fiji and Papua New Guinea.
