Within one year of acquiring ASK Consulting Engineers, global environmental services consultancy Trinity Consultants has picked up domestic counterpart Air Noise Environment.

Brisbane-based Air Noise Environment (ANE) is a 14-strong science and engineering consultancy specialised in acoustics, air quality and environmental management services. The company, founded in 1998, works for a roster of public and private sector clients, including government (local, state and federal), infrastructure players, real estate development companies, and contractors.

One major project Air Noise Environment contributed to is the EastLink project, which is the largest completed road project in Australia, comprising 45 kilometres of freeway standard road. Part of the project included the construction of twin 1.6 km tunnels underneath the Mullum Mullum Valley (in order to protect the natural habitat). As part of the works, lead contractor Thiess John Holland commissioned Air Noise Environment to prepare an air quality assessment.

For the development of Townsville Ocean Terminal (TOT) Project, a development that included a cruise terminal and wharf alongside residential, tourism and commercial development, Air Noise Environment was commissioned to prepare an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for the initiative.

By joining Trinity Consultants, privately-held Air Noise Environment becomes part of one of the larger global specialists in the environmental consulting landscape. The Dallas-headquartered company has a strong presence in the US (40+ offices), and serves other markets through locales in China, Qatar and Australia.

The addition of Air Noise Environment lifts the headcount of private equity-backed Trinity Consultants to around 650. Financial details of the deal have not been disclosed.

Second deal in Australia

The move comes nine months after Trinity Consultants entered the Australian market with the purchase of ASK Consulting Engineers. Brisbane-based ASK provides acoustics, noise, vibration, air quality, odor, and lighting services across Australia to clients in a variety of sectors.

At the time, Gillian Adams, a Principal with ASK Consulting Engineers, said, “The deal provides great opportunities for ASK. Our clients will have access to broader services; our employees will have additional career opportunities; and our company will have the resources to expand across Australia.”

Commenting on the latest joining of forces, Brian Burdorf, director and Australia operations manager at Trinity Consultants, remarked, “We are so pleased to bundle ASK and ANE. The market for environment, health & safety consulting in Australia is strong and we are optimistic about our capacity to serve local needs.”

Air Noise Environment founder Claire Richardson added, “Trinity's expertise in air quality consulting, network of resources, and clients across the globe provide great opportunities for our staff and clients. We are excited to join Trinity Australia and further expand our air quality and acoustic consulting practice.”

Earlier this year, Trinity Consultants already acquired US-based WorkingBuildings, Texas-based Provenance Consulting and UK-based ECOSA.
