John Batchelor returns to FTI Consulting in Australia
John Batchelor, a Senior Managing Director in the Corporate Finance & Restructuring segment at FTI Consulting, has returned to Australia.
The seasoned consultant spent the past five years in Asia (based in Hong Kong) as Co-Lead of FTI Consulting’s Asia and the Caribbean region. He led the division together with Jon Rowell, who per 1 January 2021 has been appointed as the sole leader of the practice.

The global chief executive officer added that Batchelor played an instrumental role in building FTI Consulting’s profile in Asia and the Caribbean, where it has offices in 12 business jurisdictions. “Under the steadfast leadership of John and Jon, our teams in the region have attracted great talent and won headline-making engagements.”
Back down under, Batchelor brings over two decades of experience in restructuring, corporate recovery and transaction advisory to the firm’s Melbourne office. In one of his more recent engagements, he led a major due diligence project for a group of lenders that were looking to undertake the refinancing of a large listed oil and gas group with operations in India and Indonesia.
Furthermore, Batchelor has also undertaken a number of transaction advisory and due diligence assignments for investment banks and funds throughout Asia.
Earlier in his career, he held the role of Chief Restructuring Officer at a large apparel manufacturer based in Hong Kong, was appointed joint Receiver and Manager over two of the aircraft previously operated by Oasis Airlines, and has been involved in restructuring a large Korean white goods manufacturer. Batchelor also led the restructuring of convertible notes in a large property company valued at more than HK$1 billion.
Prior to joining FTI Consulting, Batchelor was an executive director of independent Australian restricting specialist Ferrier Hodgson (acquired by KPMG in 2019), where he began his career in 1996.
