Following a strong bounce back in a pandemic-stricken year, mid-ter accounting and consulting firm BDO has welcomed its largest ever intake of new partners in Australia.

In its 2020/21 financial year, BDO added 25 new partners to its leadership team, lifting the size of its national partnership to 222. Ten of the partners were promoted in this month’s mid-year intake, while the remaining fifteen were appointed at the start of the year.

“It has been a big year for BDO with extraordinary demand for our services,” said Tony Schiffmann, BDO’s chief executive partner. “This record intake strengthens our market offering across our lines of business [audit, advisory and tax] and demonstrates our confidence in the continued growth of the firm.”

According to Schiffmann, the firm owes much of its success to the “remarkable resilience” shown by its 1,850 employees working from its ten offices across the country. “The way our people responded during Covid-19 was simply outstanding.”

He further highlighted the firm’s distinct culture, which has seen the firm enjoy some of the highest retention rates in the industry, “while the number of people approaching us has increased significantly.” Schiffmann added, “It is no secret that our distinctive, people-centric firm culture is well regarded in the industry … that is not going unnoticed.”

“Culture is a key differentiator for people looking to move or join a professional services firm. We have cultivated a culture that is an attractive proposition to quality talent who are looking to grow and become part of a successful and growing firm, and continue to invest heavily in our people-centric approach and build upon our positive brand values and behaviours,” continued Schiffmann.
