Sydney-headquartered electric bike provider Zoomo has brought in some consulting nous with the senior appointments of ex-MBBs Jules Flynn as Chief Operating Officer and Michelle Crocker as Vice President of People & Culture.

Graduating with a mechanical engineering degree from the University of Melbourne, Jules Flynn kicked off his professional career with a two-year stint as an analyst with McKinsey & Company in Melbourne to 2003, before later serving for two and a half years as an engagement manager in the management consultancy’s Brussels office.

While at the global strategy consulting firm, Flynn focused on the infrastructure, transport and logistics sector.

Since then, he has held a number of senior urban transport positions, joining New York’s metropolitan Transport Authority from McKinsey in 2010, where he served as a senior director for strategic initiatives and Chief Recovery and Resilience Officer for subways over the course of five years. Most recently, he was the Head of Operations for Lyft bikes and scooters in New York, and also earlier served as General Manager for Citi Bike.

Michelle Crocker joins Zoomo as its inaugural Vice President of People and Culture after more than four years with Bain & Company in Sydney, serving as a manager at the consultancy since the beginning of last year. Previously, she spent four years as a mergers & acquisitions lawyer at King & Wood Mallesons, having first joined the firm in 2012 as an insolvency paralegal while completing a law & arts degree with the University of Queensland.

“I'm so excited to be joining Zoomo at a time of significant growth,” Crocker commented. “People are at the heart of Zoomo’s e-bike products. It’s people that are re-imagining what bikes can do and it’s people choosing to ride them or rely on them for last-mile deliveries. I look forward to bringing my experience in organisational design and future of work strategy, to help grow Zoomo’s ambitious people mission.”

During her time at Bain, which she crossed to as a senior associate consultant in early 2018, Crocker advised on strategic and organisational matters for major corporates across a broad range of industries, including financial services, healthcare, industrials, telcoms and private equity, with a focus on organisational redesign, performance improvement, full potential transformations, strategy, and results delivery.

In addition to Flynn and Crocker, Zoomo has named ex-Uber product lead Alan Wells as Vice President of Product.

Zoomo growth

“Our new hires bring a wealth of knowledge, experience, and importantly passion to Zoomo, and will each be supporting a specific need for the business’ continued global growth,” said co-founder Michael Johnson, who also served at Bain for four years alongside fellow co-founder and CEO Mina Nada. “They also offer an opportunity for me to partner with our existing customers to transition billions of urban miles to light electric vehicles.”

It’s also not the first time the pair have turned to former management consultants to support their expansion agenda since founding the company in 2017.

Growth Product Manager Ishaan Arya joined from BCG Digital Ventures at the end of last year, while another recent arrival, Global Head of Talent Sacha Koffman, spent time at Oliver Wyman and Kearney, as did US head of strategy & planning Timothy Holmes and A/NZ Head of Operations & Growth Siddharth Shankar.
