Project risk expert Juan Martin-Hernandez joins HKA in Sydney
Global consultancy HKA has strengthened its Australian team with Juan Martin-Hernandez, who brings around 25 years of experience in infrastructure projects to the firm.
Appointed a Director, and based in Sydney, Martin-Hernandez bolsters HKA’s project risk management services for capital and infrastructure projects.
A qualified Civil and Environmental Engineer and a Certified Practicing Risk Associate, Martin-Hernandez has provided risk management services for major transport infrastructure projects in New South Wales for 15 years, including the Rozelle Interchange and Transport Access Program.
The past years Martin-Hernandez provided specialist advice to the Western Sydney Airport line, a new 23-kilometre line of the Sydney Metro. Once completed, planned for late 2026, the line will operate between St Marys, where the line will connect to the Main Western railway line, and Badgerys Creek Aerotropolis via the upcoming Western Sydney Airport.
He also brings extensive experience in planning, design, procurement and delivery of industrial and transport infrastructure in Australasia, Europe and the Americas. This includes due diligence specific to public-private-partnership procured transport projects, particularly risk management, environmental compliance, and design and construction monitoring.
Now at HKA, one of the country’s leading specialist consultancies to the construction sector, Martin-Hernandez will continue his role as Risk Management Lead on the Sydney Metro Western Sydney Airport line project.
“I’m really pleased to welcome Juan to the team. He’s exactly the right person we’ve been looking for to hold this role, not only because of his technical capability but also his cultural fit within our organisation. His extensive experience will provide clients and peers with best-practice risk management advice and support,” said Philip Kienstra, Principal and Leader of the Integrated Project Services practice.
