Oliver Wyman has admitted wealth and insurance expert Rama Gollakota into its Australian partnership.

Amid 78 worldwide end-of-year partnership and executive director promotions, Sydney-based Rama Gollakota has been elevated to partner, as the sole Australian inclusion.

Gollakota has been with the global strategy and management consulting firm for the past three years, joining just prior to the onset of the global pandemic. He has altogether over two decades of strategy and advisory industry experience.

An information tech graduate from the University of Canberra (having since added a masters of commerce and strategic management from UNSW and a finance and marketing MBA from London Business School), Gollakota first kicked off his career in 2001 with IBM Business Consulting Services (now IBM Consulting), primarily focused on customer strategy in the airline industry.

From there, Gollakota joined PA Consulting for a year and a half in the area of business transformation, before moving onto a strategy development role with HSBC and later being promoted to vice president of service delivery strategy. In 2010, he joined the UK wing of PwC as a manager in financial services strategy, returning to Australia with the firm three years later, based out of Melbourne

Since then, he has also served in a leadership role within EY’s Financial Services division, before establishing and managing his own Sydney-based advisory Kinetic Strategy until joining Oliver Wyman’s Insurance practice at the tail-end of 2019 – where he specialises in areas such as growth and profit improvement, modernisation, transformation programs, mergers & acquisitions, and regulatory reform responses.

“I’m delighted to be sharing the news of my partnership at this awesome firm,” Gollakota stated in a post to LinkedIn, which has garnered dozens of congratulatory notes. “I am thankful to my colleagues for their support over the last three years – it was truly a team effort. To my clients, thank you also for putting your trust in me and my colleagues. We look forward to continuing to make an impact with you.”

In what is the largest class in the firm’s history, Gollakota featured among 16 senior promotions in the United Kingdom and 7 across fellow APAC offices in Singapore and Tokyo. Elsewhere, mainland Europe saw 15 promotions, and the Middle East seven (who joined a separate cohort of seven new partners added via the firm’s recent acquisition of Booz Allen’s MENA management consulting practice.

“We have had a banner year at Oliver Wyman, thanks in part to the dedication and hard work of these future firm leaders,” said Nick Studer, Oliver Wyman’s chief executive officer. “Our new partners and executive cirectors represent the best of Oliver Wyman – depth, creativity, collaborative spirit, and courage – and I am proud to welcome them to the partnership.”
