ACCC appoints former consultant Lilla Csorgo as chief economist
The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) has appointed former consultant Lilla Csorgo as its new chief economist.
A Canadian native with a PhD from the University of Toronto, Lilla Csorgo brings more than two decades of experience in economics to the competition watchdog. She is also currently a lay member of the High Court of New Zealand.
Having spent the past year as Competition Bureau of Canada’s chief economist, Csorgo prior to that served for close to three years as an advisor in the Sydney office of global management consultancy Charles River Associates.
Csorgo previously also spent two years as a vice president at Charles River Associates between 2009 and 2011, before going to hold chief economist positions at the New Zealand Commerce Commission and Hong Kong Competition Commission.
Alongside her professional work, Csorgohas lectured at various Canadian, New Zealand and Hong Kong universities, and conducted training seminars and workshops, including for the OECD and the World Bank.
Commenting on the appointment, the chair of the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission Gina Cass-Gottlieb, said: “Lilla is a highly skilled economist, and we will benefit from her extensive experience across different jurisdictions.”
Last week, the ACCC brought DXC Technology on board to manage its Consumer Data Rights platform.
