Deloitte buys Western Australian team of Mainsheet Capital
Deloitte has acquired the Western Australian office of local M&A specialist advisory Mainsheet Capital.
Professional services firm Deloitte has officially welcomed the 18-strong team of M&A specialists from Mainsheet Capital Western Australia to its Financial Advisory practice, including new partners Maurice Argento, Mainsheet’s former managing director, along with Gerard Moody, Emma Wright and Ian Gordon.
Deloitte purchased the team following a buyout, with the Mainsheet Capital’s team on the East Coast continuing to operate independently.
“The Mainsheet team is a highly-rated strategy consultancy with an excellent track record,” stated national M&A leader Ian Turner. “Their joining Deloitte will both complement and grow our already strong end-to-end M&A offerings in the WA market dedicated to helping clients with their critical capital decisions, shaping their strategy, identifying and driving transaction opportunities and then advising through to integration or separation.”
Turner further noted Mainsheet’s strong strategic focus on the resources and energy sectors as aligning with Deloitte’s own climate and sustainability agenda and support for Australian businesses with their decarbonisation efforts and in addressing energy transition opportunities and challenges. In addition to mining and resources, Mainsheet also has lines in the utilities, financial services, retail, transport and healthcare sectors among others.
“Joining Deloitte, and becoming part of such a strong national, let alone Asia Pacific and global market presence is an exciting move for our team,” stated Argento, who previously spent time as a partner at BDO, PwC, and Andersen Consulting. “Deloitte’s client-centric focus and commitment to delivering client value really resonate with us, so we are closely aligned. This is a truly complementary fit, and an exciting move for our people and their careers.”
Joining Argento among Deloitte’s partnership ranks are Mainsheet directors Gerard Moody, BDO’s one-time national Chief Operating Officer and head of the firm’s Perth office (with earlier career stints at Arthur D. Little and Andersen Consulting); former BDO partner Emma Wright, who previously served as a transactions manager in PwC’s London office; and ex Bankwest executive Ian Gordon. Another director, Bill Bent, crosses as a principal.
“Such a well-regarded team will enhance our offerings across the full suite of end-to-end M&A advisory services and across sectors that are so important to the state’s economy,” said recently-installed Deloitte WA boss Tim Richards, who framed the transaction as part of the local firm’s broader growth story. “The Mainsheet team is well known in the WA market, and we are certainly strongly aligned when it comes to our client focus and purpose.”
