Bain & Company welcomes five to partnership in Australia
Melbourne and Sydney-based consultants feature among 70 mid-year partnership and expert partner promotions made by Bain & Company across the consultancy’s global office footprint.
Global strategy and management consulting firm Bain & Company has made a pair of senior promotions in each of Sydney and Melbourne, with Jessie Lin, Benjamin Mactiernan, and Lachlan McMurdo admitted to the firm’s partnership and Mark Soppe named as an expert partner.
The local partnership promotions featured among a mid-year intake of 70 worldwide, and follow the recent recruitment of Stephen Hardy as an expert partner in New South Wales.

Jessie Lin
A member of Bain’s performance improvement practice, Lin joins the partnership in Sydney after more than a decade with the firm in Australia, New Zealand, Southeast Asia and the US. Lin serves executive teams in the industrials, transportation and resources sectors on large-scale transformation programs and optimisation, and serves as APAC head of ‘Experimentation at Scale’, Bain’s data-driven approach to driving digital revenue acceleration.
Ben Mactiernan
Now in his second stint at the consultancy, Mactiernan has been added to the partnership of Bain’s private equity practice in Melbourne, with expertise in transactions. He first joined the firm as a full-time consultant in 2013 following an earlier career in environmental engineering across Australia, South America and Southeast Asia, and prior to rejoining in 2021 spent several years as an advisor to start-ups on growth and capital strategy.
Lachlan McMurdo
McMurdo has also been made a private equity partner in Melbourne, in addition to being a member of Bain’s healthcare and life sciences practice where he focuses on strategy engagements. He is likewise a returnee, having previously worked at the firm up until 2012 before rejoining as a senior manager in 2019, the intervening years spent at a growth-focused Australian private equity firm. He has been awarded by Bain for his keen mentorship.
Mark Soppe
Soppe has meanwhile been appointed as an expert partner within Bain’s enterprise technology, strategy and transformation practices out of Sydney. An expert in various facets of IT, from strategy and financial management through to security and AI, he joined the firm in 2019 following a four-year stint at Kearney, before which he spent a decade and a half between Telstra (as general manager of IT strategy), Ernst & Young, IBM Consulting and PwC.
Stephen Hardy
Soppe joins Stephen Hardy on the list of Bain’s local expert partners, the latter who was recruited in recent months to the firm’s Asia Pacific advanced analytics team after spending three and a half years as the CEO of artificial intelligence firm Ambiata. A doctorate-holder in physics from the University of Sydney, Hardy also previously worked in data analytics and platform engineering lead roles with NICTA and the CSIRO’s Data61 business.
