Mark McManamny has been appointed to replace Richard Barrett as the next CEO of AECOM’s Australia & New Zealand division.

With the company for close to two decades, Mark McManamny steps up from his present role overseeing the AECOM’s Victoria, South Australia and Tasmania region. He takes over effective from the beginning of next month from incumbent Richard Barrett, who has been appointed in turn as CEO for Canada.

“As we experience a transformative period in infrastructure investment across Canada and A/NZ, I couldn’t be more excited to welcome Richard and Mark into their new regional leadership roles,” said AECOM CEO Troy Rudd. “Their appointments come at a critical juncture, and they are well-positioned to drive growth and capitalise on these exciting opportunities, further solidifying our standing as an industry leader.”

McManamny joined AECOM in Melbourne in 2006 off a stint at Atkins in the UK, and has since worked his way up the seniority chain with group energy, transport, and civil infrastructure leadership roles for the southern states. Presently he serves as overall regional managing director, and is credited with driving a period of sustained growth. Earlier in his career, he worked for VicRoads and as an engineer for Transport for London.

“Every day when I come to work, I am grateful to be surrounded by such talented and passionate people,” McManamny stated. “Now I have the absolute privilege of taking on the role of chief executive for AECOM A/NZ, building on the great work that Richard and my fantastic colleagues in the leadership team have led. I look forward to connecting with as many of our clients and industry partners as I can in the coming months.”

Barrett has held the A/NZ CEO role for the past three years, prior to which he served as executive general manager for operations and managing director of Northern and Western Australia and of Queensland dating back to 2010. An engineering graduate of James Cook University in 1989, he has amassed almost 35 years worth of industry experience, including more than two decades spent at AECOM and its legacy companies.

“As we look ahead, Richard’s and Mark’s collaborative and client-focused approach will be instrumental in both unlocking new opportunities and achieving continued success across Canada and the Australia New Zealand region,” said AECOM president Lara Poloni. “Their leadership is a testament to our Think and Act Globally strategy, reflecting the connectivity between our regions and the strength of our global leadership bench.”
