FTI Consulting promotes Ben Hamilton to senior managing director
Sydney-based public affairs leader Ben Hamilton has been elevated to senior managing director in FTI Consulting’s Australian team.
Professional services firm FTI Consulting has made 49 senior managing director promotions across its global network, with Ben Hamilton of the advisory’s Strategic Communications wing the sole Australia-based consultant to appear on the annual list.
Joining the firm precisely a decade ago, Hamilton heads up FTI Consulting’s Australian public affairs & crisis communication team out of Sydney, where he advises on complex communications issues related to crisis and reputation management, public affairs, stakeholder management, and industry advocacy.
Prior to joining in 2014, Hamilton spent close to a decade in in-house strategy and communications roles within the utilities sector, including as head of corporate strategy & communications at NSW state-owned network operator Essential Energy and as a general manager at Country Energy prior to its sale. Previously, he served as a media & policy advisor for the NSW parliament and was a founding member of Smart Grid Australia’s executive committee.
In offering its congratulations, FTI Consulting noted Hamilton’s strong reputation in the local market as a trusted advisor to boards and management teams in the key areas of corporate reputation and crisis management, especially for those facing business-critical issues such as regulatory change, litigation and investigations, reputational challenges and crisis events, including cybersecurity-related matters.
With a headcount now in excess of 8,000 professionals based in over 30 countries, FTI Consulting has achieved rapid growth in recent years, jumping from $2 billion in global revenues to $3 billion in the four years to 2022. While perhaps better known locally for its turnaround & restructuring work – including on prominent brands such as Sara Lee and SeaFolly – the firm’s Strategic Communications practice accounts for roughly 10 percent of its global business.
Reflecting the importance of the practice, one quarter of the latest global promotions were made within FTI Consulting’s Strategic Communications division, with global CEO and president Steven Gunby stating; “Congratulations to each of our newest senior managing directors. These promotions reflect the firm's ongoing commitment to supporting talented individuals who make a difference for our clients and our teams.”
