Technology consultancy NCS has appointed Nikita Atkins to lead its artificial intelligence business in Australia, with Atkins to be based out of the firm’s brand-new office in Sydney’s Barangaroo.

A two-and-a-half decade IT industry veteran, Atkins first joined NCS in 2021 as country lead for the firm’s Next-Gen-Tech Centre of Excellence, prior to which he served in lead data science roles at GHD and Accenture.

In his new role, Atkins will be responsible for driving NCS’s AI-specific strategy, capabilities, and solutions, including as to thought leadership and partnerships with academia, industry bodies, and support for alliance partners.

“As a recognised thought leader, Nikita’s extensive contributions to the AI community and his engagement with industry exemplify his strategic acumen and collaborative ethos,” stated NCS Australia country head Marcus Salouk. “We are excited to welcome him as our AI lead nationally and look forward to generating substantial value for our clients.”

Earning a mathematics degree from the University of Wollongong in 1998, Atkins has since spent time at IBM Consulting, Analytics8, Wynyard Group, and Cornerstone Performance Management, before his more recent roles as advanced analytics & data science lead at Accenture and global data science lead at GHD. He is also an industry board member of UTS Techcelerator.

Altogether he has amassed more than 25 years of experience across AI, machine learning, data science, and enterprise solution architecture, and was noted by the firm as “adept at translating innovation and proof-of-concepts into operational success, with a proven track record of delivery across the healthcare, financial services, and public sectors.”

“We see AI as an opportunity for organisations to streamline efficiencies for their people, processes and data, ultimately driving greater value for their customers,” Nikita stated. “AI has the potential to improve productivity and growth across Australia and the wider region, and we look forward to supporting our customers as they advance communities through technology.”

New offices

Atkins appointment comes as the consultancy settles into its new office in Sydney’s Barangaroo precinct, home to the likes of Oliver Wyman, Accenture, KPMG and PwC. The firm has also recently launched a new office in Canberra.

Following a string of local acquisitions, NCS has grown its headcount in Australia to around 1,500 professionals.
