Bain & Company has increased its partnership stocks in Australia with Nicholas Therkelsen-Terry, Michael Blake, Kuba Tymula, and David Yang.

Therkelsen-Terry and Blake both become expert partners in Bain’s advanced analytics division, having joined the global strategy and management consulting firm last year upon its acquisition of Brisbane-based AI & machine learning company Max Kelsen.

Meanwhile, Tymula and Yang are members of Bain’s respective innovation & design and retail & consumer products practices based out of Sydney, with both having joined the firm over the past three years, the latter as a so-called ‘boomerang’.

Nicholas Therkelsen-Terry
Therkelsen-Terry co-founded Max Kelson in Brisbane in 2015 while studying an economics and law double at the University of Queensland, and served as CEO of the AI & machine learning company until the sale of its consulting and managed services wings to Bain in the middle of last year, whereupon he joined the firm’s advanced analytics group as an expert associate partner.

Michael Blake
Previously Max Kelson’s vice president of engineering & architecture, Blake likewise crossed to Bain & Company as an expert associate partner last year. Prior to joining Max Kelson in 2022, he spent five years between AWS and Google Cloud, including as the latter’s A/NZ AI & machine learning customer engineering lead. Earlier, he co-founded an online fitness marketplace in the UK.

Kuba Tymula
Tymula also brings an entrepreneurial background to Bain’s innovation & design partnership in Sydney, having founded digital transformation studio Harris Partners out of Ogilvy prior to joining the firm in 2021. Previous to that, he spent seven years at McKinsey & Company, including time with the management consultancy in San Francisco, New York, Chicago, Melbourne, and Sydney.

David Yang
Elevated to partner in Bain & Company’s retail & consumer products practice, Yang rejoined the firm in Sydney in 2022 following an earlier nine-year stint covering the consultancy’s offices in London, San Francisco and Johannesburg. In between, he spent four years as a leader in Amazon’s consumables division, including as head of baby products, and then trade, grocery, pet products and alcohol.
