Foundstone Advisory launches Modern Strategy Methodology

Melbourne-based boutique strategy consultancy, Foundstone Advisory, has launched a new offering that helps leaders shape their next business strategy in a rapidly changing world.

Branded as the ‘Modern Strategy Methodology’, the approach brings together principles from Design Thinking (in a boardroom strategy context), Corporate Strategy and Open Strategy to create a more iterative, and non-linear way of crafting strategies – and keeping track of its relevance over time.

“It has become profoundly clear that strategy is no longer just a point-in-time event or a top-down internal exercise. Instead, leaders need to open up the strategy process both inside and outside their organisation to get first-hand market, client, partner and staff insights. This should be a core part of the process before making strategic decisions,” says Andrew Bird, founder of Foundstone Advisory.

“We also see there is a clear need to help leaders embed a continuous approach to their strategy development, an element that is crucial when considering the rapid pace of external change and global uncertainty.”

Bird says that the methodology has been honed over five years, through a combination of real-world strategy delivery, working with various client, partner and expert stakeholders to finetune the model.

In the run up to the formal launch, the method has already helped achieve transformative results for clients, including the Australian Medical Association, Carers Queensland, Mental Health Australia, Amber Community, Fulton Hogan, YMCA, RACV and Work Healthy Australia.

Natalia Centellas, CEO of the Australian Medical Association, says that the Modern Strategy Methodology helped the association build a strategy that is “more aligned than ever before, right across the organisation in delivering value and impact.”

At Amber Community meanwhile, the approach helped deliver a 300% increase in opportunities and pipeline for the organisation as well as guided the launch of new service lines.

“Using the Modern Strategy Methodology, we work with our clients to modernise their strategy, recognising that business strategy needs to factor in a combination of existing, present and future decisions and isn’t always a linear process,” concludes Bird.
