Luke Baxby to lead healthcare business of Create Advisory
After announcing his departure from Deloitte four months ago, former national health and human services lead partner Luke Baxby has bobbed back up as a managing principal at Create Advisory.
Create Advisory was established by former Sayers partner Nicole Scurrah in the middle of last year, and has recently embarked on a concerted recruitment drive and promotion round to cement its senior leadership team.
The addition of Baxby however is a significant coup, with the former long-term Deloitte partner joining as a managing principal out of Brisbane to reportedly establish side-line ‘Create Health Advisory’ over the coming months .
Baxby joined Deloitteas a ‘health economics and social policy’ partner from Queensland Health in 2008, and was appointed national health and human services lead in late 2020. During his time in charge, Baxby oversaw the integration of a number of acquisitions, including Paxton Partners, health policy consultancy Siggins Miller, and digital healthcare outfit The Checkley Group.
These efforts, amid a wider rush among the Big Four to move into the healthcare consulting sector post-Covid, presumably contributed to Deloitte awarding Baxby an internal ‘Charter Award’ toward the end of last year, which honours those who “exemplify the behaviours” outlined in the Big Four’s partner charter. Just nine months later, and Baxby announced his departure.
“It has been hugely rewarding to support clients in responding to the biggest challenges our system of health and social care has faced,” he wrote on Linkedin. “At the end of last year I reflected on what I will do in the next 15 years to see out my career? It was an opportunity to think about what I really love; building the careers of individuals, developing teams, and solving complex issues.”
While Baxby’s profile has now been updated with the ‘Create Health Advisory’ entry, neither himself nor the consultancy has made any further announcement as to the new venture, including as to the nature of the business arrangement. Scurrah and Baxby however share close family ties, with Luke’s brother, former Virgin CEO David Baxby, a member of Create’s advisory board.
As it stands, Create Advisory bills itself as an expert firm offering strategic, commercial and technical advisory for major projects in the transport, energy, and property & precincts sectors and other regulated environments. The firm also recently brought in former Deloitte infrastructure partner and one-time Aurecon global segment leader Jason Wozniak as managing director for Victoria.
