EMM Consulting welcomes Quadrant as minority investor to drive growth ambitions
Environmental advisory EMM Consulting has welcomed Australian private equity firm Quadrant as a minority backer in a deal which will support further international growth and portfolio expansion.
Established in Sydney in 2008, EMM has since grown to a headcount of more than 300 professionals operating from nine offices across Australia, and in late 2021 made its first international move into Canada.
EMM, which will continue under the leadership of CEO Liz Webb and its current executive team, will now seek to expand on that footprint and broaden its services portfolio with the strategic investment and support of Quadrant.
“We have exciting growth aspirations to expand in Australia and beyond, and we are pleased to have found the ideal partner to help us achieve them,” stated Webb. “The EMM and Quadrant collaboration represents a unique opportunity to amplify our purpose of ‘creating opportunities’ and to continue creating value and being valuable contributors to our planet.”
Serving heavy-emissions and environmentally sensitive industries such as mining, energy, construction, transport, water, and waste, EMM’s team of scientists, engineers, planners and other specialists combine technical expertise with sustainable business strategy nous, via a broad service portfolio covering everything from air quality through to water policy and planning.
“We have been consistently impressed with the entire EMM team and their deep commitment to building a market leader profile in strategic environmental advisory services,” stated Quadrant’s Marcus Darville and Victor Ha, who will join the board. “This partnership represents a compelling opportunity and we look forward to supporting the business in its next phase of growth.”
A report in the AFR from October suggested a circa 45 percent stake in EMM had been put to the market, the proposed deal valuing the company at upwards of $100 million. Quadrant’s resulting investment has been made from its $600 Strategic Equity Fund, which includes Canva and focuses on minority-only stakes in high-growth businesses with strong management teams in place.
“I see this partnership with Quadrant as a testament to the strength of EMM’s journey and the values that have guided us over the past 14 years,” concluded EMM chair Gary Flowers. “Quadrant’s strategic investment will support our continued growth while preserving the integrity of what makes EMM unique – our commitment to excellence, innovation, and meaningful impact.”
