Economics consultancy ACIL Allen has appointed John Langoulant as a Senior Associate within its Perth office.

John Langoulant brings around three decades of experience in government, not-for-profit and commercial sectors to ACIL Allen, strengthening its reputation in delivering high quality advice in economics, public policy and strategy.

His experience includes a number of high profile roles, including 10 years as Western Australia’s Under Treasurer, CEO roles at the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Western Australia and Mitsubishi’s Oakajee Port and Rail Project, as Chair of the Government Employee’s Superannuation Board and the Dampier to Bunbury Pipeline, and as a Non-Executive Director on the National Disability Services Authority.

Langoulant’s contribution across these roles saw him awarded an Officer in the General Division of the Order of Australia in 2010 and the Western Australian Citizen of the Year for Business in 2011.

Most recently, Langoulant was appointed to the role of Agent General for Western Australia based in London, a role for which he held from 2021 through to 2024.

Langoulant has also undertaken several influential inquiries for governments, the most recent of which was his appointment by then WA Premier Mark McGowan as Special Inquirer to undertake an Inquiry into government projects and programs. The recommendations from the inquiry were accepted by government and have helped to guide public finance policy and infrastructure management in Western Australia.

“John is one of Australia’s foremost experts in public policy, financial management, and the operations of government,” said John Nicolaou, Executive Director at ACIL Allen. “He will significantly add to ACIL Allen’s reputation in providing high quality, insightful advice to some of the most pressing economic and public policy challenges facing Australia.”
