BDO appoints Melbourne leader David Garvey as next Chief Executive Partner

BDO has appointed Melbourne-based executive David Garvey as its new Chief Executive Partner. He will officially take up the position from 1 December 2025.
A partner at BDO since 2015, and Melbourne Managing Partner since 2015, David Garvey brings over 25 years of experience to the role. Succeeding Tony Schiffmann, Garvey will lead a team of over 300 partners and almost 3,000 employees nationwide.
Over the next six months, Garvey will work closely with Schiffmann on the transition, and pass on his responsibilities as Managing Partner of the Melbourne office to his yet to be named successor.
“This is an exciting development in the evolution of our firm in Australia,” said BDO’s Chairman David Fagan. “David’s appointment marks a pivotal chapter in BDO’s journey of growth and transformation.”
“David has a proven track record of strategic leadership, deep sector insight, and a collaborative mindset. His leadership style is defined by authenticity, agility, and a steadfast commitment to client success.”
“He brings a bold vision for BDO; one that is rooted in people and inclusive culture, powered by innovation, and focused on sustainable impact. David understands that our strength lies in our people, and he is passionate about continuing Tony Schiffmann’s work to foster a culture where our people thrive, ideas flourish, and partnerships deepen.”
A Chartered Accountant and an ASIC Registered Company Auditor, Garvey comes from the audit side of BDO’s business. He has delivered audit services across a diverse range of industries, including ASX-listed companies, and conducted numerous engagements involving due diligence, preparing expert reports for litigation, and independent accountant's reports (IARs) for initial public offerings (IPOs).
Following the transition, Schiffmann – who has been with the firm for over 25 years – will remain with BDO and continue his role on the company’s global board.
