BCG names Anthony Roediger as Global Lead for Social Impact in Government
Big-time strategy firm Boston Consulting Group has appointed former Australia managing partner Anthony Roediger as Global Lead for Social Impact in Government.
Now a two-and-a-half-decade company veteran, Sydney-based Roediger led Boston Consulting Group in Australia for four and a half years before handing over to Grant McCabe at the start of 2023, and has since served as a senior partner with a focus on the public sector.
A long-time advocate for social equality issues in Australia, including as to female entrepreneurship and as a board member of Indigenous development organisation Jawun alongside KPMG chief Andrew Yates, Roediger will now take that passion to the global stage.
“For over 25 years I’ve worked alongside governments in a wide range of contexts across the world, from social services, education and health to economic infrastructure, growth and finances,” Roediger said in a post to LinkedIn. “Many of these engagements have been about how we help public services increase their support of the disadvantaged in society for better outcomes.”
Roediger, who first joined BCG after an earlier career as a corporate lawyer, continued; “In this new role, I’m looking forward to working with our great social impact team and building on that foundation, working with governments, partners and colleagues on innovative approaches to some of today’s most pressing challenges in every region, in order to drive practical, lasting impact.”
An economics and law graduate of the University of Adelaide (now Adelaide University), followed up by a masters in IP Law at Oxford, Roediger first joined BCG in 2000 in London after spending three years at MinterEllison between Melbourne and the latter. He returned to Australia with the consulting firm two years later, with time also spent in the Middle East and Southeast Asia.
He was promoted to managing director and A/NZ public sector lead in 2008, then took on the role for the Asia Pacific six years later, before taking over from Andrew Clark as BCG’s managing partner for Australia and New Zealand in 2018, instrumental in returning the strategy consulting firm to the latter on a permanent basis while also driving a number of D&I initiatives.
Before anyone scoffs, Roediger is also reported to have previously spent nine months with his family living and working in a Cape York community, and previously led BCG’s people development function across the Asia-Pacific. Since handing over to McCabe, after a period of renewed growth, he has also served as the firm’s APAC chair for innovation and collaboration.
As a typical response to Roediger’s appointment, now-Nairobi-based senior partner Jim Larson, also recently appointed as a global social impact area lead, had this to say: “So thrilled to have Ant’s passion, energy, care for others, and expertise in this role. Very much looking forward to partnering as we harness BCG’s capabilities to improve so many lives in concert with our government clients.”
