BDO recruits three more partners with Big Four backgrounds
Accounting and consulting firm BDO has added Kylie Meaney and Emma Wright to its partnership in Brisbane and Perth, with the pair following Matthew Fregona through the door in Adelaide.
Meaney joins the CFO Advisory team of BDO in the Sunshine State after previously spending more than two decades at Ernst & Young, while Wright returns to BDO’s Deals practice in Western Australia after time as a partner at Deloitte and director at Mainsheet Capital.
The pair join Fregona as members of BDO’s roughly 350-strong partnership in Australia, with the ex-KPMG tax associate director having crossed from Santos in Adelaide last month.
Kylie Meaney jumps to BDO after first joining Ernst Young as an intern in 2003 and being promoted to partner in the Big Four firm’s 2023 mid-year intake. She brings a wealth of experience and deep expertise in technical accounting, transactions, structuring, audit readiness and remediation to support CFO’s with complex financial reporting and communications challenges.
Emma Wright meanwhile brings close to three decades of experience focused on transactions, having started her career with PwC in the UK. She was later a founding director of Tomkins Turner, which was acquired by BDO in 2018 before later suffering its own raids. She then left the partnership to join Mainsheet Capital’s WA team, which was subsequently acquired by Deloitte.
“Emma brings deep commercial experience and an outstanding track record advising businesses through high-stakes transactions and strategic growth opportunities,” said BDO’s Perth office managing partner James Massie-Taylor. “Her experience across M&A, capital raising, and transaction advisory significantly strengthens our capability in the mid-market.”
Matthew Fregona joined BDO’s corporate & international tax team from Santos, where he was an in-house senior tax advisor. Previously, he spent a decade at KPMG across two stints, and specialises in advising on complex tax matters, governance frameworks, and regulatory risk, particularly within the energy & resources sector.
“Matthew’s extensive experience with ASX-listed companies and multinational groups, particularly those operating in complex and highly regulated environments, brings a strong commercial lens to our technical tax advice, and will further enhance our ability to support clients navigating increasingly complex tax and regulatory landscapes,” said BDO’s Adelaide boss Rudy Pieck.
