Ted Moynihan appointed CEO of Oliver Wyman and Marsh Management Consulting
Ted Moynihan has been appointed as the new CEO and president of Oliver Wyman and Marsh Management Consulting, succeeding now Marsh Risk CEO Nick Studer after almost five years.
Based out of London, Moynihan has been with Oliver Wyman for three decades, including most recently as global head of industries and previously financial services. He will lead Oliver Wyman and operations unit Marsh Management Consulting.
Moynihan replaces fellow London-based partner Nick Studer, who has led the consultancy since mid-2001 and now heads Marsh Risk, with the pair reporting to John Doyle, the president and CEO of Marsh, which recently rebranded from Marsh McLennan.
“Ted brings extensive leadership experience and a proven track record of driving transformation and growth in the consulting sector,” Doyle said from the professional services group’s New York headquarters. “His deep expertise advising clients on complex business opportunities and challenges makes him the ideal leader to guide Oliver Wyman’s continued success.”
Prior to being appointed global industries leader in 2020, Moynihan, an engineering graduate of Cambridge University, spent eight years from 2016 as head of the firm’s global financial services practice, earlier leading the division for the EMEA region (Europe, the Middle East & Africa) after serving as corporate & institutional banking leader at the global level.
He will now oversee a business which last year generated revenues of $3.6 billion, up by 6 percent on the year prior and doubling its take over the past decade. A sizeable contribution of that now derives from the firm’s Australian business, which was launched in earnest in 2022 via the acquisition of Perth-based Azure Consulting with further offices in Sydney, Melbourne and Canberra.
“It is a privilege to lead Oliver Wyman at such a pivotal moment and build on our legacy of delivering exceptional client value through deep industry knowledge and innovative thinking,” Moynihan stated. “Together with our talented colleagues, we will continue to help clients navigate complexity, adapt, and build resilience while investing in our people and capabilities.”
As part of Marsh’s efforts to integrate its branding across its four primary businesses, which further includes Guy Carpenter and human capital consultancy Mercer (which will from 2027 switch to Marsh), Oliver Wyman this year became ‘Oliver Wyman, a Marsh business’ while its operating unit ‘Oliver Wyman Group’ has now taken up the moniker Marsh Management Consulting.
