Richard Bolt joins public sector practice of Nous Group
Richard Bolt, a well-known advisor and policy expert in the public sector scene, has joined the Melbourne office of management consultancy Nous Group.
Bolt brings over three decades of experience in the Victorian public sector to the consulting firm. Most recently, he was Vice President of Strategy & Innovation at Swinburne University, tasked with leading the planning and delivery of strategies across the university and guiding a range of teams responsible for strategy, commercials, audit, risk and legal.
Before that, Bolt had a diverse career in public advocacy and Victoria government, holding roles including Secretary of the Department of Economic Development, Jobs, Transport and Resources; Secretary of the Department of Primary Industries; and Secretary of the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development.
Bolt has over the past years also served on several advisory and expert groups, advising on complex issues including energy transition, carbon policy, education reform, economic development and transport. Last year, Bolt was a member of the Stakeholder Advisory Group to Chief Scientist Alan Finkel for the development of a national hydrogen strategy. He was also a member of the Advisory Panel to the Energy Security Board on the post-2025 design of the national electricity market.
He was previously the chair of the Grampians Regional Management Forum and the Animal Welfare and Product Integrity Committee, director of Schools connect Australia and the Australian Institute of Teaching and School Leadership, and deputy chair of the National Emissions Trading Task Force.
Tim Orton, the founder and managing director of Nous Group, is thrilled with the high-profile addition to the team: “Richard has made an exceptional contribution to Victoria and Australia through his work in the public sector. We are thrilled that he has chosen to continue his influential career as part of Nous.”
He added that the firm’s clients will greatly benefit from his wealth of experience. “His expertise in important areas including energy, education, economic development and carbon policy will be invaluable to our clients and will help us immensely as we pursue positive influence in these areas.”
Bolt has been appointed a Principal in the firm’s Public Policy practice, operating out of Melbourne. Commenting on his new challenge, he said, “It’s a great pleasure to join Nous. I’m looking forward to contributing to the high-quality advice for which they are recognised.”
With nearly 400 consultants and staff, Nous Group is one of Australia’s largest home grown consultancies. The firm also has offices in the United Kingdom and in Canada.
