Nous Group expands into Canadian consulting market
Nous Group has launched a presence in Canada, its second market outside of Australia following its earlier expansion into the United Kingdom.
“We are pleased to extend our positive influence to Canada, where organisations are facing opportunities and challenges that are similar in some ways to their counterparts in our existing markets,” said Tim Orton, who founded Nous Group in 1999 and leads the management consulting firm.
In Australia, privately-held Nous Group has eight offices across the country, while its UK office is based in London. The foray into Canada comes according to Orton on the back of “growing global interest in Nous’ consulting services.”
Canada’s management consulting industry is valued at around US$4.2 billion, and achieved solid growth of between 5% to 6% in 2019 and 2018. Much of this growth stems from heightened demand for digital transformation services, which now accounts for nearly 25% of all consultancy revenues in the North American country.
Nous Group’s Canadian team is led by Tim Kennedy, a Director at the firm, and Tom Tyler King, a Senior Consultant, who both have relocated to its Toronto hub. Kennedy has been with the consulting firm for nearly three years, having previously served the University of Melbourne after starting his career as a professional clarinettist. Tyler King joined Nous some four years ago, and previously worked for four years in the assurance and consulting arms of Big Four firm PwC.
“We are very excited that our Toronto office is up and running! A big shout out to Tom for coming on this journey with me, and Nous Group for supporting my transition to Canada,” said Kennedy.
A flying start
The duo have gotten off to a flying start, having secured their first project with a university in Ontario. “We are looking forward to working with the university,” said Orton, adding “Nous was selected due to our experience delivering similar projects with universities in Australia and the UK.”
In Australia, Nous Group recently supported Monash University in developing its 10-year strategy for sustainable growth, which involved a roadmap for action that is delivering growth and diversity goals within space constraints. Meanwhile in the UK, the consultancy advised a major university on its 2017-2022 strategy amid rapid changes in the higher education sector.
Orton: “As one of Australia and the UK’s leading higher education industry consultants, Nous understands how to harness the dynamics that drive activity in the sector. Many Australian and UK universities have benefited from our consulting services, and now Canadian universities will be able to join them. There are very few firms in Canada with our expertise.”
Kennedy added that he hopes that the work done for the university will on the longer term help generate further interest in Nous’ expertise in other sectors. In Australia, the firm works across a range of sectors, including defence, government, financial service, resources and utilities.
