Strategy& in Australia promotes Michael Thompson to partner
Michael Thompson – a lifelong Strategy& company member – has been promoted to partner in Australia.
It was back in 2005 when Michael Thompson first joined Strategy&. As an intern, he learned the tricks of the trade in strategy consulting, and after graduating with a degree in Engineering from The Australian National University, his positive experience in the industry and with Strategy& meant that he decided to stay with the firm to kick-start his career.
Thompson actually joined Booz Allen Hamilton, but not too long after his arrival, Booz Allen Hamilton split into two firms: the public sector unit in the US continued as Booz Allen, while the international private sector consulting business – which Thompson was part of – transitioned to Booz & Company.
Fast forward six years, and the landmark acquisition of Booz & Company by PwC for a reported $1 billion created Strategy&. Due to contractual agreements between Booz & Company and Booz Allen Hamilton agreed at the time of the split, PwC was forced to drop ‘Booz’ from the brand, and early 2014 the firm rebranded as Strategy&.
Over the course of his 15 year at Strategy&, Thompson has grown into an expert in strategic consulting services to the government sector. He is part of the Public Sector leadership team with expertise in securing investment, optimising operations, and creating value across government.
Thompson has worked extensively with a range of Australian government agencies on large scale transformation programs, in among others the immigration, border security, law enforcement, trade, tourism, tax, defence, and social services sectors. He also has gained experience across the telecom, construction, materials, and not for profit sectors.
Commenting on his promotion, Thompson took to LinkedIn to pen, “I’m proud to join the Strategy& Australia partnership. Thanks to everyone who has supported me – particularly my team, family, and clients. So thankful to be around such amazing people.”
In Australia, Strategy& is led by Melbourne-based partner Ben Gilbertson. PwC Consulting is led David McKeering.
