Commonwealth consulting firm Synergy Group has appointed Antonia (Toni) Marzulli as its new Chief Executive Officer. She leads a team of around 400 professionals serving Australia’s public sector.

Antonia Marzulli brings over 25 years of experience in industry and professional services to the firm, as well as a profile and track record that according to Synergy Group’s Executive Chair Robert Kennedy makes her “an outstanding choice” for the top seat and for driving Synergy’s “next phase of growth.”

Founded in 1999, privately-held Synergy Group is award-winning consulting firm that helps Commonwealth agencies deal with strategic planning, program delivery, change management, creative change, digital transformation, financial management, assurance, and resourcing and staffing.

“We are excited to have Toni join our team and are incredibly fortunate to have attracted someone of her calibre,” said Kennedy. “She brings an amazing wealth of experience from a business perspective and a diverse background ranging from the scientific to the commercial world.”

Marzulli most recently was a partner at IBM, responsible for the firm’s hybrid cloud transformation and cyber capabilities across Australia & New Zealand, where she led initiatives across multiple Commonwealth agencies. She was also the Diversity and Inclusion Executive for IBM, overseeing the company’s diversity and inclusion efforts in the region.

Prior to IBM, Marzulli was a senior executive with Leidos where she oversaw complex program execution and sensitive client engagements, as well as leading significant projects to build internal corporate culture and capability. Before that, she held senior roles at Lockheed Martin, where she was responsible for strategic development and multiple research and development portfolios, and was a biochemist researcher and team leader at GlaxoSmithKline.

Commenting on her new role, Marzulli said: “I look forward to working with the Board, engaging with the Synergy team, and meeting our customers and business partners over the coming weeks and months. Synergy is in fantastic shape thanks to the passion and dedication of a truly inspirational group of people.”

“Synergy Group is a unique organisation amongst consulting firms in Australia with an unapologetic commitment to people. I am passionate about developing organisational talent and am incredibly fortunate to have the opportunity to build on Synergy’s reputation as one of Australia’s leading consultancies and help shape its future.”

Marzulli succeeds Galia Cornish, who was Synergy Group’s inaugural CEO and stood down at the end of last year. Cornish has since launched her own management consulting firm, Potenture.

Kennedy concluded: “From the outset we were adamant that a new CEO needed to not only drive Synergy’s core business but was also someone who reflected our core values and challenged assumptions. Toni’s energy, enthusiasm commitment to learning, combined with her natural curiosity will be key elements driving Synergy’s next phase of growth.”
