New sustainability consulting offerings launched in Australia

Australian businesses looking to boost their sustainability credentials will have two new consulting options to turn to, with Ogilvy and Pollinate both launching new practices.

As the world turns its attention to COP27, two new sustainability advisory offerings have been launched in the Australian market.

Ogilvy has pulled together experts from its public relations, consulting and strategic communications arms to establish a local Sustainability practice, while the Influence Group’s research and strategic consulting wing Pollinate is following suit with the launch of Pollinate Sustainability.

In a press note, Ogilvy cited the increasing pressure felt by local brands to clearly communicate their ESG (environmental, social and governance) goals and progress as its motivation for forming the new practice, which will offer service lines in strategic counsel, reputation management and crisis support, stakeholder engagement including investor relations, and behavioural change support on ESG challenges.

The launch on local soil follows the establishment of the firm’s Sustainability Practice in Asia toward the end of last year, and will bring together expertise from a number of its business outfits, including chief counsel Nino Tesoriero to lead the practice along with Ogilvy’s chief strategy officer Toby Harrison.

Other members of the team include public relations, communications, and behavioural science specialists.

“Environmental and social issues are becoming a major consideration for Australian consumers, and yet they don’t believe that business or government are doing enough to address them,” Tesoriero stated, drawing from research released in conjunction with the launch. “As a result, clear communication of meaningful action will be increasingly important as companies navigate their way through these complex issues.”

Following on from Ogilvy’s announcement, consultancy Pollinate has also established a dedicated advisory service, Pollinate Sustainability, to be led by CEO Howard Parry-Husbands, a long-time director on the board of Planet Ark. Others on board include Pollinate chief operating officer Nathan Saville and head of society Pamela Souvlis, together with senior research executive Lilia Blanari.

The company states that its new practice aims to help businesses identify the cause of any sustainability issues, covering the functions of purpose, process, product and promotions, and then work to deliver solutions in areas such as marketing and communications, product development, and supply chain management, along with conducting training. The firm will also soon release its most recent research findings.

“It is very clear we’re in a paradigm shift around the way businesses and consumers deal with sustainability,” Parry-Husbands said. “Right now, consumers have a set of expectations around sustainability that are pulling businesses in many directions. In this environment, we have identified the need to offer a purpose-built division that uses our track record to help provide clear and meaningful paths to a sustainable future.”
